Wellness & Roots

Building Healthy Futures

Our Wellness & Roots programme is a transformative 52-week initiative designed to empower 30 young people (ages 6–18) by focusing on their mental, physical, and emotional well-being. This programme blends cultural education, health activities, and mental health support to create lasting positive change for participants and their families.

Programme Highlights:

  1. Workshops Three Times a Month:

    • First Half: Engaging activities such as football, dance, swimming, and cooking classes to promote healthy lifestyles, combat obesity, and encourage peer interaction.
    • Second Half: Educational workshops led by healthcare professionals, nutritionists, and therapists. Topics include health conditions impacting the BAME community, such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. These interactive sessions empower participants to make informed health choices.
  2. Monthly Cultural Exploration and Identity Development Classes:

    • Hosted on Zoom, these sessions provide a platform for children and parents to explore their cultural heritage, strengthening family and community ties and addressing identity-related challenges.

Objectives:

  • Promote healthy lifestyles and prevent obesity.
  • Foster a sense of belonging, reduce isolation, and build self-confidence.
  • Equip families with resources to address emotional and physical health needs.
  • Provide participants aged 16+ and parents with opportunities to volunteer and contribute to future workshops.

Addressing Key Challenges:
